One of my biggest concerns as a mom right now is with the current problems of the public school system. I’m going to stay off my soapbox or this post would be an entire book! I will say this: I was a teacher in two different school districts and I’m a mom with 5 boys ranging from Kindergarten to a Junior in High School. There are some great teachers out there. There are some drab teachers out there. The system is definitely broken in many aspects.
One thing I saw in my own classroom when I was teaching school was smaller class sizes matter. That was a proven fact to me. It didn’t matter if all my straight arrow kids happen to be absent and I had all the “behavior challenged” kiddos left. The day was easier purely because the class size was smaller. I was more effective, less stressed and could make a better difference in the lives of my students because there was more of me (less of them) to go around. Anyone else out there with me on this???
Because I’ve seen the results of this phenomenon first hand, I’m a big believer in small class sizes. Kids are more likely to be motivated and successful and teachers definitely have the odds in their favor. In the life of a teacher, there’s nothing more frustrating that not being able to reach the one.
At Jeanne’s, we celebrate our small class sizes. We don’t have over crowded classes where the instructor doesn’t know or care who you are. Our class sizes allow teachers to build relationships with each dancer and their family so every dancer gets the most out of each class. I had fantastic teachers, like Miss Laurie, while I was a student at Jeanne’s. Miss Laurie always made me feel valuable as a class member, recognized my strengths and challenged me to try harder – to be my best. She taught me much more than pirouettes for which I am extremely grateful!
Class size matters. We keep our classes small so we can have the greatest impact on your dancer and give them not just an education but an experience that will last a lifetime!

Kids are growing up too fast these days. Toddlers know how to work smart phones. Pre-schoolers can work a computer mouse with pretty accurate results. Pre-teens and teens are so connected to the outside world through technology they’re not connected to the world that surrounds them. What happened to the days of playing outside all day and not coming home until dinner time?
I’ve decided that for me, there’s a balancing act that’s required. Yes, I want my kids to be challenged in their ability to think critically and reason. I want them pushed academically so they can contribute to society. But I also want them to be kids. I want them to feel the joy and innocence of childhood when wonder and amazement is all around them in the things they discover.
At Jeanne’s, we cherish childhood for everyone. Whether you’re 3 or 103 we’re all young at heart! While we challenge kids to work hard and be their best, we whole-heartedly recognize that kids are kids and the innocence they bring to our dance rooms is pure gold!

We have one Friday a month with a workshop dedicated to a different dance style. Dinner is even included! Only $25 per dancer for 2.5 hours of peace. We dance, work on our technique, and help each dancer on an individual basis to master that one thing they’ve been working on but haven’t quite gotten. . . yet.

My son, Bryson has always had a great sense of humor. I could see it in him when he was very little. However, around 2nd and 3rd grade it really started getting him in trouble. He was sarcastic during class, would talk while the teacher was speaking and was sometimes rude to adults. He was the class clown. We worked for years telling him his sense of humor was a gift. But he had to use his power for good and not evil! Talking during class – even if it was funny was not the right time to tell a joke. I begged him to write down everything he wanted to say and put on a whole comedy routine during recess if he needed to! Somehow we made it through Elementary School with only minimal scars.
It was around that time that we started our Musical Theatre program here with Mr. Javy and I knew this would be a great outlet for Bryson. He has really grown and matured as a young man, but I’ve seen a maturity in his thinking, writing and creativity too. Musical Theatre has given him an outlet to use his powers for good! And thankfully, Mr. Javy puts up with Bryson’s jokes and sarcasm too!
There is great power in the performing arts. It’s not just a place to learn a craft. It crafts the person into a great individual. It allows exploration of emotion, creativity, critical thinking, problem solving and teamwork. What mom doesn’t want all of that for their teenager?
Musical Theatre is a great place for kids to work as a team, build their confidence, practice social skills and be creative! Many moms in our program have told me the transformation they’ve seen happen in their kiddos because of their participation in Musical Theatre. The little girl who came in so shy she hardly spoke to anyone is now giving amazing presentations at school. Another who was having a hard time making friends found a whole class full of new BFF’s and feels like she fits in.
Kids need a niche. A home away from home. Jeanne’s has always had that home feel, where you feel loved, valued and appreciated. Click HERE to learn more about Jeanne’s Musical Theatre and let your performer into a whole new world of endless possibilities that will change his/her life!
