Our family had fantastic holidays including lots of treats and yummy food. I thought once the calendar rolled into January we'd get back to better eating habits. But January quickly rolled into February and my need for chocolate kept gaining momentum faster than I could burn the calories or even talk to my Will Power! So here it is, almost March and I've decided it's time to ditch my chocolate fix and start eating healthy again. I want to be real here and say that I'm not saying I'm giving up chocolate. That would be like giving up oxygen! I do want to get back to some better eating habits so I feel better, have more energy and can be more productive each day. If this scenario sounds familiar to you I'd love to hear your comments below!
Here are the goals I've set:
1) Drink more water daily. By the time you feel thirsty you are well on your way to being dehydrated and with the weather getting warmer it's important to stay on top of your water intake. Here's a good rule to follow: think about how much you weigh and divide that number in half. That's how much water you should drink every day. I keep a water bottle in the kitchen sitting out so when I'm going from task to task I can grab it, drink up and refill quickly.
2) Always eat breakfast. This may sound simple but it's one thing I have to really focus on because the mornings at my house are so busy getting 5 kids ready and out the door at different times. Studies show that breakfast skippers tend to eat more food than usual at their next meal or snack on higher calorie foods to fight off hunger.
3) Take a few minutes each day to relax. A trip to the Spa would be nice but let's face it, the reality of that happening is slim! :) Taking some time at some point in the day to check Facebook, read a book, meditate, think up crazy new ideas for dance productions or just let my brain go - think - and wander - really helps. And as crazy as this sounds, playing games with my kids, watching a movie together or reading books together before bed keeps me calm and relaxed too.
So to all the Moms and Fabulous Ladies out there - take some time to focus on you! And check out our Adult dance and fitness classes at the studio right now and coming this summer! Lots of great opportunities in store to get fit, be healthy and feel great!
